The YouTube Video: Friday by Rebecca Black
60
I'm sure you've all heard about this video by now. It seems like it just came out of nowhere and hit me in the face. I didn't hear about it until the DJ's were talking about it on the radio. There I was on the way to work when they start talking about this "horrible" YouTube video. One of the DJ's actually felt bad about making fun of it when he heard the story behind it. What's the story, you ask?
Well, apparently this 13-year-old girl named Rebecca Black and her mother scrounged together $2,000 and paid to have this video made. The company provides a song and produces a music video. All of this for $2,000. For Rebecca, it appears to have paid off. Not all videos created by this company are going to hit it big, but hers certainly did. I guess I shouldn't say, "hit it big", but it's definitely become a viral video. Black has had over 22 million hits to the video on YouTube and she's already been interviewed on ABC. Her song has reached Number 19 in the top 100 on iTunes. I'm not joking.
I, personally could have lived with the song, but the chorus is so odd to me that I can't stand listening to it. Not the chorus lyrics, but the sound of her voice when she belts out "Friday!" really sends chills up my spine. Not good chills, bad chills. She doesn't sound bad at all during the rest of the song. Before you send me hate mail about my ability to "live with" the song, you have to understand that with three young children I spend my time listening to teeny boppers singing on the Disney Channel. I'm used to hearing this type of music on a daily basis. Before you watch the video, please be warned that the song will be stuck in your head not only for Friday, but the entire week.
Rebecca now has her own Twitter account. I posted the link below if you're interested. She's also rumored to be asking Justin Bieber to collaborate with her. His recent Twitter post mocking the song leads me to believe that won't be happening anytime soon.
I hope that Rebecca can use this experience and this media frenzy to her advantage. Go for your dreams, girl!

Hi Puppyluv, it's amazing what people will do just to become famous .
Enjoyed this read. We are a musical household - I'm not sure I would put this on a list of must hear songs for my girls but isn't it good that anyone can make it big with YouTube? - you can't argue with the channels ability to give everyone an opportunity. That's a great thing, in my opinion.
Wow, free expression makes me smile... love the Mother/ daughter thing (the song... not so much) but Joey's critique was precious... (sounded like he was alluding to Big Brother... but quite humble about it). Thanks for a cute read!
...well there is a lot of great stuff to be found on You Tube and there is a lot of watered down stuff too which is absolute crap (lol) and supports Andy Warhol's theory that in this day and age ANYONE can become 'famous' and have their '15 minutes of fame' but with the way you write your fame here at the Hub (and anywhere else you choose will last a lot longer ....)
Hi, your voice sounds like glass breaking in a bad way! arggghhh! save us from this rubbish! lol thanks for sharing it, I can at least understand why they have x factor and American Idol now!
It's Friday Friday, front seat, back seat, How a bout a dunmpster.
I got a black man in my video, just to let you know Im a cool ho! Friday, Friday WTF. I look like the front of a truck. Front seat Back seat, How a bout the dumpster?
I never knew Rebecca Black before. Thanks for share about here. I am glad to know this from you. I really enjoy the video above. Rated up!
Prasetio,
I'm now so curious I have to listen to the song. Bad publicity often increases income - and definitely exposure. I hope Rebecca is able to cope with all the awful criticism.
This song has intrigued me. I too have written an article on it feel free to check it out and tell me what you think!
That Twitter account clearly says it's not her real account, please check before including a Twitter account in an article.
Thanks for updating :)
If this doesn't show how idle minded some people are and entertained by such drivel well then nothing does. It shows how easy it is for media to 'distract' people who have lost the art of concentration.
Very interesting and thank you for sharing.
Take care
Eiddwen.

I heard this song yesterday in the car and had no idea who it was, and then they started talking about her and mentioned her name, which I've seen all over Twitter. The song is so bad that it will make it big. It's the kind of song that you make up as you're messing around. I guess we'll see what happens with Rebecca Black. You never know, a producer can make songs amazing even if the singer can't sing!
